This is not a cheap blender. In Japan, it costs the equivalent of $800. That’s more than my oven.
Here’s the description from an advert I found :
The Vitamix machine is not a blender or a juice extractor. It’s so much more. The surgical stainless steel blades rotate at 240 miles per hour, pulverizing whole foods down to the cellular level. Valuable nutrients locked inside the pulp, skins and seeds of fruits and vegetables cannot be absorbed because the phytonutrients are trapped within plant cells which need to be ruptured. The Vitamix machine ruptures the cell walls of fresh, whole foods to make these phytonutrients more bio-available.
I bought one, of course. I wanted to unlock those valuable nutrients. I was appalled that phytonutrients were still trapped within the plant cells. I needed to rupture those cells. I had to make these phytonutrients more bio-available. Anything spinning at less than 240 mph was insufficient. Only a blender with a 2H.P. motor, that’s more power than my neighbour’s ride-on Honda lawn mower, could get the job done.
Well it certainly works.
If you look at most of the online adverts for this blender, you’ll notice some things :
– It is hardly ever shown next to something. That’s not surprising when you realise it is two feet ( 60cm ) tall. It’s huge.
– There is usually a grocer’s barrow load of fruit and vegetables present.
– There is always an affiliate link, often offering “free shipping” as an inducement. There is a lot of compensated reviewing for this blender.
But most interestingly perhaps :
– No one is seen wearing earmuffs. Sorry, “ear defenders”. You know the things :
It is very noisy. In a shop or restuarant, with the noise of a working kitchen to contend with, I’m sure it “blends” ( ahem ) in. In my kitchen, it sounded like my neighbour had arrived on his ride-on Honda lawn mower. It’s phenomenal.
So the good points :
– It will blend anything
– The motor seems really sturdy, heavy, and long-lasting
– The carafe thing is large and takes a lot of fruit and veg
– I’m confident that if anything can liberate phytonutrients, this is the device
The bad points :
– It costs more than the rest of my entire kitchen
– It sounds like a chopper taking off
I sold mine, at a mere $400 loss, and bought a quieter one. If I look a little pale, it’s the missing phytonutrients.
